About the Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics at the University of Kurdistan commenced its academic operations in September 2007 with the admission of its inaugural cohort of undergraduate students within the Faculty of Science. In line with its commitment to academic expansion, the department launched its Master of Science program in Mathematical Statistics in September 2012. Furthermore, the department maintains an international profile, having successfully graduated several international students at the postgraduate level.

- Training experts proficient in data collection, processing, and analysis using advanced statistical methodologies for application in industry, economics, management, medical research, environmental studies, agriculture, and political science;
- Preparing students for advanced studies at the Master’s and Doctoral levels;
- Providing comprehensive statistical education for other academic disciplines within the university;
- Offering specialized statistical consultancy for research projects and academic theses;
- Fostering collaborative links with national and international research institutions.
The department features a dedicated statistical laboratory, providing students with the necessary computational infrastructure to master data analysis through specialized software.

We live in the transformative era of data, where strategic decision-making in social, political, industrial, and financial sectors is fundamentally driven by data analysis. Today, the synthesis of long-standing statistical theories with advanced computational technologies and high-performance computing has yielded powerful analytical tools for processing Big Data across various scientific domains. The Department of Statistics at the University of Kurdistan aims to remain at the forefront of these developments by modernizing its curriculum and fostering interdisciplinary engagement. Research Areas
The department’s research activities span both theoretical and applied statistics. Key research interests of the faculty include:
Bayesian Statistics, Generalized Linear Models (GLMs), Statistical Learning, Robust Estimation, High-Dimensional Data Analysis, Statistical Bioinformatics, Small Area Estimation, Reliability Theory, and Risk Theory.
