Researchers from the University of Kurdistan, Dr. Loghman Maleki and his colleagues, have discovered and described a new genus of parasite belonging to the class Trematoda, named Parapleurogenoides Kurdistanensis. This new genus, which comprises a single species, was identified for the first time in the intestine of the frog species Pelophylax bedriagae, collected from the village of Gezne near Sanandaj. The validity of this new genus has been confirmed by both morphological and molecular data. The scientific paper detailing this discovery has been published in the prestigious Journal of Parasitology, the official journal of the American Society of Parasitologists.
